what “web 2.0″ really means — and why “web 3.0″ will never come
Posted by on February 21, 2009
I generally have a bad reaction to fads but perhaps as strong a reaction to things that can be easily turned into them, or misappropriated as such. “Web 2.0,” which Tim O’Reilly & Co. coined back in 2004 (which now feels like a century ago), and that Tim discussed at length in this 2005 Post-FOO [...]

I hadn’t looked at LyX in a long time, and it has gotten really good. By now it may be the way to do LaTeX without a lot of complexity, on any platform.

microhoo: what’s next
Posted by on April 28, 2008
As we wait with baited breath for the next move in the Microsoft/Yahoo saga, Marc just posted a must-read entry on what happens if microsoft goes fully hostile. Meanwhile techcrunch has some speculation. Another interesting question is what exactly is Microsoft buying with this, given that many people would leave, many have already left, and [...]
Professor Knuth gets many right, at least one very, very wrong
Posted by on April 27, 2008
An interesting interview with Professor Donald Knuth (via slashdot, where the slashdotter writes: “[Knuth] pitches his idea of “literate programming” which I must admit I’ve never heard of but find it intriguing” — really? never “heard” of that? I think it was one of the first things in programming I “heard” of… anyway…). Some interesting [...]
